96 2.3 5 speed goes into gear but then grinds

I was driving and heard what sounded like running over a soda can or a plastic bottle, after that my transmission started making a god awful grinding noise when accelerating in any gear. At idle in 1st or 2nd it would move but as soon as I gave it any gas whatsoever it started grinding and stopped putting power to the wheels/ slipping hard, same in reverse. I pulled over as soon as I could. Clutch fluid reservoir is still full, haven't checked the transmission fluid yet. Any recommendations as to where to start?

Welcome to the forum

Bummer, reads like the input shaft gear went bad

Try 4th gear, its the only gear that doesn't use the input gear, it will still make noise but truck should move

If it is the input shaft gear then you will need a rebuild or to find another M5OD-R1(M5R1) transmission from a 2WD(?) 1988 to 1997 2.3l Ranger, later models won't work
