2004 3.0 2wd manual gear box oil capacity

So I've searched the web found some ppl say 2.85 qrts is all you need and then some say 10.5 quarts.. Anybody able to fill me in on this? As for the fluid it's mercon v I know but I'd like to but some actual gear oil if it's safe

M5OD-R1 5-speed manual uses 2.8quarts BONE DRY, so won't take quite that much on refill

Automatic trans takes 10+ quarts

Yes, both use ATF, Mercon V is spec'ed or equivalent, some like synthetic type, say shifting is easier.

No, do not use gear oil it is way too thick and will most likely cause some major problems with shifting and bearing failures

I would stop by a shop and have them loosen and remove that fill hole bolt and tell them its over filled so they can have something under it to catch the ATF that will drain out
Fill hole is, of course, also the Level hole, so you can't over fill it

Not sure what will happen when it heats up, might blow out one of the rubber shift rail plugs on the back???

Meh not for maybe .2 of a liter if I had an extra 2 qrts in there I'd understand but for abit of drippage I don't think it will harm anything. Ofcourse correct me if I'm wrong but I let it drain for two hours and put 2.8 ltrs in there. Should be fine
