Valve body issues?

I searched this issue that I'm having, and it sounds like a valve body, I'm not really sure what its function is, and how serious this problem is that i have.

When driving on the highway, at 65-75 mph, cruising, after about 5-10 mins, the OD light keeps blinking, and the shifts get really hard especially in lower gears.

Autozone/napa both don't carry the valve body, So i called a buddy i have at a ford dealer, cost on it is like $450 bucks (retail is like $700 ) . id hate to spend the money to figure out its something else, or i could have done something cheaper to remedy it

hey man, pretty sure this isnt any help but i have an 04 ranger and i just got my valve body fixed and 2 days later problem is back. my OD light doesnt go on but it seems like when i hit around 40mph the tac will feel like it falls into a groove just under 2. engine will rev when i accl. but wont go any faster. i have to get off the gas and get back on hard for everything to work right. i also had trouble shifting from P to RorD. didnt shift right away and then would drop into gear real hard. everything under warranty for me but without would have cost me like 1400.
