2004 Ranger Front Differential Bearings
I am looking for some help on finding info on the front differential inner wheel bearings on my 2004 ford ranger 4.0L. I am replacing the cv axles, right front hub assembly and the inner wheel bearings and seals. I believe they would refer to the bearings as differential bearings. I have been trying to find them at local parts stores but no luck. If anyone can help me out with some info on these bearings I would greatly appreciate it. I need to know where to get the bearings and if anyone has ever replaced them while the diff is in the truck how did you get them out. I will probably be using a locking jaw type slide hammer on the inside of them to get them out. Thanks for the help.

Differential bearings are on the diff carrier itself, you'd have to pull it to replace them. Part numbers on the axle tube bearings can be found here on page 12

I haven't changed them without removing the the housing but you should be able to get them with a slide hammer. I remember one side having a small bearing with a lip that was very hard to grab, I was able to pop a couple of needle bearings out then remove it. If that one looks good you might just leave it.

Ok thank you for the info. I have bearings and seals ordered. I removed the whole diff so I could change the fluid. Looks like the side with the long tube the passenger side might have to pull the ring gear and the axle shaft to get the bearing out. Has anyone had to do this before? It’s a Dana spicer 35 with cv shafts

I got the intermediate shaft with no problem. Having a hard time getting the bearings out of the axle housing. Has anyone done this job before and had any luck with a slide hammer or do you have to pull the whole ring gear? Also wondering if I do pull the ring gear do I have to reset the backlash and everything if I just re use the bearings and shims the same way the cane out?
