2007 Ford Ranger 4x4 front axle seals leaking.

How hard is replacing the front seals on a 2007 Ranger pickup. This model has torsion bars and don't know if that will ba a factor. The seals are leaking but not bad. Doesn't leave a puddle of oil or anything just mostly stays a little wet but does sling a little on the under carriage.

Can a shade tree do it?

Are you talking about the front diff output seals? It's not too big of a deal if that's what you mean!

I've posted in a few other threads like this as well, but have not received an answer yet. I've read that if it's the front diff pinion seal, you just disconnect the driveshaft and remove the pinion nut (impact gun helps). Remove/replace seal and torque nut back (impact gun or pinion flange bar) and reconnect driveshaft.

I asked because my front seal is barely seaping, but enough to make the bottom of the diff wet. If it's not a big job, then I'll do the seal, but if it's anything like having to retorque the crush sleeve....I'll just silicone the base of the seal for now.

that is in-correct , any time you remove the pinion to driveshaft flange , you are removing the correct pinion gear to ring gear backlash ( proper gear backlash is critical to proper differential operation )

the pinion seal leaking is a clear sign that the pinion bearings are worn out and should be replaced as soon as possible

not necessarily, something such as dirt or sand can get in on that seal and ruin it. Doesnt mean the bearings are shot. Also in most cases you can just remove the nut and replace seal and reinstall. Just need to be careful what you are really torquing that nut back down to. Too tight can cause issues same with too loose. That crush sleeve can be reused and torqued just a shade more to keep it tight but still within tolerance.
