2008 has rear disc from factory?
I got a flyer from a dealership. The lead in Ranger (4 cyl for $11K) showed 4 wheel disc brakes. Anyone know if this is true or is it a typo? If true is it standard or an upgrade?
seems kinda odd they would do that on the rangers last production year.
If it is true then it would be an easier swap, just getting your hands on an 08 rear axle would be the problem right now
None of the '08s at the dealership here have disc brakes. I suppose it could be an option though.
Was it something from Ford, or something a dealership made? If it is something a dealership typed up, you can pretty much be sure it is wrong. I have seen dealers say things like "inline V6" in their ads before. Truth be told, a lot of them have no idea what they are selling. Odds are they meant four wheel ABS or something.
Definitely dealer BS. 2008 Rangers are still front disc/rear drum/4-Wheel ABS. No option for 4 wheel discs.
here's the e-mail/ad. Must be a typo:

Thats Mac Haik for you I hate that stealership
why would this be the last production year for the ranger? it has a huge market, if as a fleet vehicle if nothing else.
If you go to ford.com and look at the safety and security feature for 2008 Rangers it says that all 2008 Rangers come with 4 Wheel Discs Anti-Lock Brakes. And while at a dealership last year looking at the 2007s I did notice the one I looked at had 4 Discs.

If there are discs, are they 7.5 axles or 8.8 axles? This is starting to get interesting. If nothing else, conversion kits for them just got a lot cheaper. This is pretty big news IMO.
I'll get with my contact for Ford OEM stuff and see if he can dig into this. It would HAVE to share components from another vehicle. |

wow wish ford would make up there mind whether or not they have 4 discs!!! lol
i am going to convert mine to rear disk soon, but that is with the ex axle
on fords website, the 08 rangers have disc fronts and drum rears still
No production Ranger has ever come with rear discs. The 2008 Rangers at the local dealer here have rear drums - I looked.
Yes, the Ford Website contradicts itself and says 4W discs in one place and disc/drum in another. This is just a mistake made by some marketing weenie who probably doesn't know the difference. As far as the dealer flyer goes, I wouldn't trust the accuracy of anything it says. You can check the standard and optional equipment in the 2008 Ranger Dealer Ordering Guide. It says that 2008 Rangers are disc/drum/4WABS standard and lists no option for 4 wheel discs. |
