Not sure if this is the right place, but How close is the chassis of my truck to a mustang? Trying to decide what kind of motor to drop in

 

I'd think the Ranger chassis is sibling to the Explorer's.
The 4.0l SOHC engine was installed in both Rangers and 'Stangs and the 5.0l V8 is mentioned frequently as an option for Ranger builders..

What are the specifics of your situation?

Retrieving the PCM and wiring harness from the donor vehicle always comes up.
Another source of wiring work has to do with differing dashboards.
None of this jazz works with the incorrect nervous system.

If the engine in your Ranger died, the simplest route is to replace it with a good one of the same type from the appropriate time window.
