3.0 = 4.0 manual transmission

is the 3.0 manual the same as the 4.0 manual... the reason i ask is because i have never seen a 3.0 manual with a 4x4 and i plan on having one sometime :mischievo

if you can find a core you shouldnt have a problem swaping the output shaft and housing.
i am not really sure on the manual's, after all i am a pansy cause i drive a automatic.
but i did switch my 2x4 slushbox to 4x4. you remember that right?

The Mazda manual has an integral bellhousing that is different for 3.0 and 4.0, so they will not interchange. Also, a few of the internals of the 2001-up 4.0 manual were beefed up for the SOHC.

I'm sure that there were 3.0L manual Rangers with 4WD. Probably not as common as autos though.

My old 96 ranger was a 3.0L 4x4 5 speed manual

I drive a 3.0L 4x4, its a 1996.

yeah thats what i thought... hopefully i can either match up the tailshaft from a 4x4 4.0 one or find a 3.0 4x4 one

The internals are the same, but the bell housing is different.

I also had a 1996 Ford Ranger 3.0 liter 4x4 5 speed!

04 EDGE 08-08-2007 06:43 PM

all you need is a output shaft and a tailshaft housing for the manual.

probley harder to find then the auto.

Pinecone 08-08-2007 06:50 PM

I had an 02 3.0 4x4 Edge.

wow doing a quick search i found a yard in flint mi that has 5 of them for 500 each

TireIron 08-09-2007 03:36 PM

you can use a manual 4x4 tranny from ANY 3.0 ranger, they are all the same M5OD from the introduction of the 3.0 in 90 to now so any 3.0L 4x4 5-speed will work for you. There are hundreds of thousands of this combination, hell the 3.0 4x4 is probably more common than the 4.0 4x4...
