3.0 Fan won't come off!!!!
Ok, I've got my Junes efan, and I WANT IT ON MY TRUCK! one small problem.... my stock fan won't come off.... I've twisted and beat and baned and it won't loosen to save it's life...
I put an adjustable wrench on it, and he wrench SLIPPED on the "nut" thing behind the fan blades. It was slipping, and sortof rounding off the metal he nut thing was made of.... What do i do? you guys have never steered me wrong yet... so please help me so I can install my efan please!! Thanks!! |
you know that it is reverse thread right
:stupid:
yeah..... righty tighty..... so on the 3.blow, righty, would be loosie.... so i tried to turn it RIGHT.... towards the battery....
did you get the clutch removal wrench?
also try some pb blaster, i used it and i gave it a good wack and it broke free... |
For a 3.0L, put a long wrench on the nut and smack it clockwise. Or use the Griggs method and hit a corner of the nut clockwise using a hammer and a long cold chisel.
nah, i didnt get the clutch wrench thing... i found an easier way (for me) I removed the belt, and put some of those chain vise grips ont he fan pulley. they wont let it move...
then i put the wrench on it WITH A PIPE and it rounded off the nut thing..... i'll soak it with pb blaster when i get home |
To initially get it loose you don't want to pull on it, you want to whack it. Once it is loose, it will unscrew by hand.
ok so put the wrench on it and bash it with a mini-sledge or somethin?
yep. It's amazing. The right whack and it's loose. Just like that.
sweet.... i'll try that then... it cant be rusted on... cause when we rebuilt the truck, we put a new fan on it... it's not been on over a year....

I agree. IMO, PB Blaster is much better than other penetrants like Liquid Wrench, for example. Be very careful to keep anything like PBB off of the pulleys and belt. It can cause a ton of trouble down the road.

Air hammer long chisel
And stop using an adjustable wrench!
