3.55s to 4.10s

I have a 2009 ford ranger sport with a 3in. PA body lift and im looking to get 33s. I currently have stock 3.55 gears.... Would it be a good idea to swap to 4.10s? And if so what exactly would I have to get.
Just a new ring and pinion?? New differential?? Not exactly familiar with rear ends..

go online and look up a gear ratio calculator, i believe randy;s ring and pinion website has a pretty good one. you will find 33" tires should be paired with a ratio between 4.10 and 4.56. if you are going to spend money to regear you should get the 4.56 and make the investment worth every penny

no problem, always pays off to research stuff like this a lot before jumping in

Get the install kit too.

I found with 33" tires 4.10s are too high a gear ratio.
4.56s might be a little too low but more get up and go is good thing.

Decide where you want to be with your truck, what will you be doing with it and then see what ratios are out there.
I think there is ratio between the 4.10 & 4.56... Maybe 4.30.
If this is just a road truck then the 4.56 might be too low for good gas milage.

Is your truck a 2x or 4x ?

Also, a new differential will only be needed if you want a limited slip or locker.
Again you need to think on what you need because while you are changing gears it will be a good time to do something with the diff to save money.

yes, do not run 33's on 3.55 unless you want a new transmission. 4.30 or 4.56 would be ideal however. I run 33's and 4.56 with my 4.0 v6.

all you need is the ring and pinion, you can get off summit racing for around 190

Minimum parts will be ring and pinion, a crush sleeve and pinion nut to install the new pinion gear and some extra shims, just in case.

If you buy the install kit too you will get this stuff, just make sure to ask what is in the kit.

Always replace the pinion crush sleeve and pinion nut with a new set of gears !

Next thing clean and inspect all of the bearing, look for any bluing of the bearing and race surfaces.
Double check the axle bearings and make sure to check the "C" clips for any wear, nicks, cracking; do not use them if you see any problems and check to see if they are in the install kit.

Doing the rear axle half way is asking for trouble, yes there are a lot of people that have just pulled things apart and threw the new gears in, wham-bam, thank you... but if you have the time and the extra money get it done right.
