I would recommend 4.10's asap. The 3.0 and 3.73's are not a really good combo.

Does the truck have a lift on it, will it fit those 33x12.50's easily?

I would reccommend it sooner than later. Don't forget that your motor is 12 years old and is different than the 3.0's we have now. Those 3.73's are highway gears not turning alot bigger than stock tires gears.

Does anyone know how big of a job putting in 4.10's? Just in case I ever decide to do it in the future.

I run it and it's fine.

Me and nick talked about it in pm's...but

I run 3.73's with 33's, and I'm not easy on the truck at all. I practically jumped it the other day out at 27....I thought I broke something.

I towed a trailer with 2 jetski's with my setup now.

I also loaded my bed with crap...pretty heavy.

I beat the snot out of the rear end, and it's been OK to me.

the only complaint I have is that on the hwy above like 65 it doesn't hold O/D well.

But I'm planning to swap axles

yo ricky , thanks again for all your help and now its kind of hard to decide because a lot of people said its bad with the gearing.. but ricky runs it and has no complaints besides going over 65 on highway (whats O/D mean)? but i also have a older truck.. its gonna be tough too because i also cant get a tuner for my truck... im gonna give it a lot of thought though because everyone here has made a great point..any other last thoughts on this topic ?

No problem man.

Like I said...

Get your tires...

Then save up and swap your rear end...you won't be dissapointed.

I don't run a tuner, you should be fine.

The only thing that I question is that your truck is almost 12yrs old, mine is 4.5yrs old. I wouldn't worry about it

When you break it, that just means you can mod it!!! (Upgrade)

BTW, O/D means overdrive...my 5th gear

Installing gears should be left to a professional unless you know how to properly set backlash and/or have installed gears before.

It's a tedious job (so I hear) and it doesn't really cost much to have it done the right way.

The last thing you want is to mess your rear end up!!!! hahahahah

little late i know. But you having a 3.0 and your stock gears you will have bogging problems going up hills and starting off from a stop if you try to floor it. I would say get the the 4:10 gears get em in than get your tires.

Ok, I got some 32" tire on and I had 7.5 gear 3.73 ratio on before the tires. I don't want loss of acceleration or to make life any harder on my 3.0 than it allready is, so I just called around and got a 8.8 gear and 4.10 ratio for 292 with tax and slapped that on, even got that LS with it, and I couldn't be happier, it feels like I never got the bigger tires (except I'm higher!). I am positive you wont be happy with 33"s, 32"s or mabye even 31"s with stock gears on a 3.0, just swap out that axle, its now big deal and pretty easy.

Oh and it performs awsome offroad now, lovin the beefy tires, lift and LS. If you got a question on swapping the axle just search, there are a few threads, that is what I did.

You mean your local garage found the part and installed it for you, all for 292?
