Icon4 HELP! No really please help.

Hey guys, this is my 1st post.
Just picked up an '88 ranger xlt, extended cab 2.9 V6, manual trans with auto t-case.

Problem I am having is that I am stuck in 4wd. Not in just one though, I can shift from 4hi to 4lo and back no problem. Issue is that it will not come out of 4wd into 2wd. bought this truck as a work truck/daily driver and i know it being stuck in 4wd is gunna wreak havoc on my t-case and front diff. I don't here it trying to click or anything when I hit the button on the consol. have even tried taking the console of the roof, disassembling and getting a better contact on the circuit board but no change. Tried to find the 4x4 computer behind the drivers seat by the jump seat, but can't find it???? took the plastic panel of the jump seat and nothing. followed my wiring harness from the shifter motor, and it looks like it comes into the cab under the driver seat.

Anyone know where my computer might be?
Also anyone have this issue themselves, and solve it? would love to know. I'm debating ordering a "Shiftster", to eliminate the whole electronic part, any opinions? and do i need manual hubs in conjunction?

Sorry guys I realize this is kind of a long winded "help me post" but im a little desperate, and figure the more you know the better you can help.

Thanks guys.

Hi guys, thanks for those who looked, realized I could take the electric motor off the back of the tranny (going to take it apart and clean it) and manualy twist the little rod. Just needed a temp fix like this to drive an hour from home and pickup some windows for a client.

If anyone has any answeres to my other questions i do appreciate it.

If anyone is still following this thread i managed to fix the electric shift motor. Took it apart and found that the grease had solidified and turned into what looked like red plastic. cleaned it out and now it shifts from 4-hi to 4-lo back to 4-hi and now to 2-hi and all the way through everything. Hope this helps someone else in the future.

I doubt this is a cure all. But it may help if you're having the same problem
