locker??? bolt on

last may i rebuilt my rear end since the last owner beat it along with the tranny and the spider gears where shot but i didn't shim them and just put it toghter and now one of the axles are loose so i was going to get shims and shim them.
but my question is is there a bolt on locker since winter is coming and its only 2wd and i don't feel like getting a tl since it got all new bearings in it and its a pain so start over. something fairly cheep is also good
thanks

7.5 or 8.8? Aussie makes a ratcheting style that replaces your spider gears, but it is for a 31 spline axle, and there like 230 to 250$$.

Detroit makes a complete replacement carrier that is a locker....take your gears off and put it on the Detroit unit....then put it back it....of course with the proper shiming...

it is on the outside....between the carrier's bearings and the case...

if that is too expensive for you, then look at a Quick-Loc....they replace the spider gears and come in a 28 spline version...

There's no such thing as a locker that isn't housed inside the differential. Your best option would be a "lunch-box" style locker, i.e. one that replaces the spider gears inside the carrier. I'm pretty sure Aussielocker and Powertrax both make lockers for your 8.8. So long as you keep the ring gear in the same spot you should be able to reinstall your carrier without having to reset the gear mesh pattern. Just keep very close track of the shims in the axle and reinstall them exactly as you took them out.

Aussie only makes a locker for the 31 spline, not the 28. I don't know about Powertrax.

If you do any wheelin or towing/hauling with your truck I would go to a junk yard and pull the axle shafts and the carrier out of a explorer and buy the 31 spline ratchet style locker from aussie. also I would buy a shim kit since you did not shim it last time so every thing will mesh right.

i shimmed the carrier just not the spiders (lazy)
i dont do towing or go wheelin since its 2wd
so power trax is the only one with 28 splines
