3L automatic transmission interchange
Hello all, I'm new to the group. Thanks for letting me join. I have a 2003 Ranger Edge ,2wd automatic. It has a bad transmission. I'm wondering if any of you can tell me how many different years of transmissions I can use. Pretty sure it's a 5R44E. There may be a few in my local junk yard. But I don't know what years I can use. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks |
Yes, 2002 Ranger 2.3l or 3.0l will have 5R44E, 4.0l used 5R55E
A transmission has a Bell Housing that is specific to the engine it was on, engines bolt pattern 3.0l Vulcan engine has a unique bolt pattern, so 5R44E from a 2.3l won't fit the 3.0l You can change bell housings but on an automatic the rear of bell housing is the Main Pumps front case so not a simple thing to do 2002-2008 5R44E from a Ranger 3.0l 2WD will work Mazda B3000 2WD in the same years as well, same 3.0l engine and 5R44E transmission 2008 was last year Rangers used 3.0l Vulcan engines 4WD can not be converted to 2WD(or visa versa) without full disassemble and changing of the main shaft, rebuilding yours would be more economical, lol If this is your first automatic trans install then a big HEADS UP!!!!!!! Torque converter MUST BE seated on the input shaft and slid back into the bell housing as far as possible to align with main pump, or you WILL ruin the tranmission No do overs Did it wrong on my first automatic 40 years ago, a common first time goof and an expensive one |
Thank you very much, I was worried I could only use one from 2003. I had heard they were an exclusive year, and that the ECU wouldn't except any other years.
