Which 4.0

I have a 91 4.0 that's engine has bit the dust....the only 4.0s I'm finding are late 90s and early 2000s....question is, what's the year range of
4.0s that i can direct swap, mine is automatic
thanks

1990 to 1996 4.0l OHV would be best swap, 1997-2000 4.0l OHV will also be OK but need an 8 bolt flex plate, yours had 6 bolt used in 1990-1996, but not an expensive part, and same starter motor on either
If it comes up you have a VIN X engine, VIN is vehicle ID number, its 8th digit is the engine code, X = 4.0l OHV

Manual or automatic won't matter nor will 2WD or 4x4
2001 and up are 4.0l SOHC so will not work(VIN E)
Explorer 4.0l OHV and Mazda B4000 1994-2000 will also work, also VIN X

You will need to swap your upper and lower intake with fuel rail over to the new engine to match sensor wires and fuel connections

This is a good site to see local wrecking yard parts: https://www.car-part.com/

Use YOUR Zipcode
