I have the 4.0 and 4.10 gears with 31's and it pretty much put it right back at stock performance and mileage.

My 2000 had 3.0 MO5D 4.10 and 245/75/16, stock. Not a bad combination, IMO.

I downsized tires to 235/75-15 and thought I had a sports car. I literally quit pulling out in 1st except in a rush. It did a lot better on the mountain highways too, less downshifting.

I know a kid that had a Focus with the SOHC 2.0L and he was runnig 14" low profile tires to do what you did and get the car to perform better.

On to toppic

I have the 4.0 with 4.10s limited slip and I think it's great. I beleve my 87 Toyota 4x4 has 4.10s also (or close to it) with the 96hp 2.4L I4 (carborator) with 31" tires and it did supprisingly well. The Ranger will most likely take the Toyota at a stop light or at any time for that matter. But when I was daily driving the Toyota before I owned the Ranger it could hold it's own.

i have the 4.0 with the 4.10LSD and it really helps with acceleration...dont expect a lot of top speed or really good gas mileage though

nevermind 4.10 gears are too high more for drag use its actually better to have 3.73 gears it gives what i want and need better than the factory gears and wont kill the engine. Thanks.

my opinion stock size tires and 3.73s are the way to go. if you start changing tire size then go to 4.10s
my 99 with a 3.0 and stock size tires like 29inch overall and 3.73s was great. went up to 31s and it was horrible
