I have a ranger on 35's, running 4:56 gears, its 03 edge 3.0.... The truck is possibly going to be put back around stock height for certain reasons, I am wondering what is the smallest size tire I can run now that I am stuck with the 4:56 gears? They are great in the 3.0 but I do half city half freeway driving...my concern is the rpms on the freeway...how bad is it too run the truck at higher rpms because of my gear ratio? if I drop tire sizes?

I would say keep it at least 33's

 

I would say 33's. I getting ready to switch to 4:56's and when I check what the rpms would be at 75 mph it was 300 more then what I am doing now.

 

i ran 456 with 285s , it was great.

 

How big are 285's?

I wanna go smaller then 33's but I think I am stuck with at least that size now?? Because I looked at charts, saying I ran stock tire size about 28" or 29" tires and I am running at 65-70 mph I would be running around 3600 rpm... :(

Any input?

 

A 285/75-16 is a 32.8 I believe, pretty much a 33 11.50, that would prob. work good for ya...gonna have some serious bottom end though!! I would love that haha

 

actually I know a couple people running 31s on 4.56s with the 2.3 Lima and they really like it. The 2.3 and the 3.0 seem to like the same RPM range too.
