4:56's or Bama Tuner (added poll)

I cant decide which one to get so I need your help. Im getting 33's in a month or two so thats why I wanted to regear but a Tuner is alittle more expensive and gives me more power + mileage. Also I have intake and exhaust which should compliment the tuner. Help

I'v been hearing the tuner should come first because it will give me more of a power difference then gears.

Tuner, you don't need 4.56's if you have 4.10's.

Gears. I have both. Gears blew my mind (granted I went from 3.55 to 4.30).

Gears first... BUT come on Jared... you dont need 4.56s... your 4.10s are just fine!

You are 2wd, so go with 4.30 gears instead of 4.56.

go with 4.56. Sure you'll get more power with the tuner but there are other reasons for regearing. You get better trottle responce, better MPG, less wear and tear on your drivetrain. Get the gears and save for the tuner later. As for what gears got for 4.56's. I have 4.10's, doing 90 MPH on the highway at around 3,2000 RPMS is more than enough. Thats with 4.10's and 31's, if I could do it I'd get 4.56's with 31's.

Im thinking about getting 4.11 gears with the 26" tires I have......I want more acceleration......I think that its the rear end that has all the play in it, and new gears should lower the drivetrain play.

I say tuner hands down. It buys you milage, power, and the ability to change minor things.

Sooner or later the tuner will pay for it'self. The tires will only cost you money to buy.. and then extra gas consumed.

So.. financially speaking. The more you drive the truck the more money you'll get back towards the cost of the tuner in mileage. Then as soon as you get the tires.. it'll be easy to re-cal the speedometer and maximize milage for them as well.

Im good in the locker department.

Looking more into it for the price of the tuner I can get the 4:56's and a underdrive pulley, would that be better then the tuner?

well if you are going to do both then get the gears/pulley first since you would need to re-program the tuner for the new gears... might save some money

There wont be any money saved. When you buy the tuner you can adjust the gear ratio whenever you like via the tuners handheld buttons.

If you are deciding between gears + pulley, or tuner alone I don't even see how you can honestly consider getting the tuner instead. ONLY reason to get the tuner now would be that with 4.56 gears and no tuner your speedometer will be off.

With the 4:56's what will highway driving be like? Will my truck drown more and waste gas being in the high rpms? Will gears be better for towing?

Highway miles will be less. If you have 2wd and do a lot of highway driving going with 4.30's would be better. 4.56 and a 3.0 should be a good combination. Should give you a good amount of power. Swapping the gears will help towing.

Alright so gears and pullies it is. Now I need to know if I should get the 30's or the 56's. I do alot of highway driving and towing but also would like more torque then top end speed. 33's will be the largest tires that my truck will have.

are you talking about 4.30 or 4.56?

since you have a 3.0 and plan on 33's, i would go with 4.56 gears.....
