4r55e Tranny Problem

Have the 4r55e behind my 96 4.0 4x4. Slammed it in reverse at too high an rpm in the mud and reverse went. There was no loud bang or anything it just acted like it was in neutral. Still drives forward but wont shift out of first. Is it all done or is there a common problem with these like a smoked solenoid?

you probably burnt up the clutches in there. or threw a bearing.

Maybe you knocked the Range sensor out of adjustment.

reverse is just controlled by a band, and there are really no bearings to "throw"

i would say that you blew up the one way clutch in the trans. your best bet now is to have someone do a line pressure check, and if the pressures all read normal (indicating the pump, valve body and separator plate gasket are fine) a rebuild is in order
