slipping

ive been kinda wondering about my ranger lately. every morning on the way to school when i get out on the road and it shifts hard like from first to second and it will kick the back end pretty good. bit once i drive it for a little bit its fine also when i put it in reverse it doesnt go into reverse right away and when i give it the gas to get it in reverse it jerks the truck when backing up what would be the cause of all this???

Auto or Manual? (I'm guessing its a Manual, but...)

Give us some specs on your truck and we can help you out more

Your guessing its a manual? He said IT shifts hard from 1st to 2nd, it shifting im guessing means the truck, therefore using common sense i'm guessing its a auto.
