4wd swap question

I found 3 4wd Rangers

One is a 2001 the other 2 are 2005 and 2006

How far back can I go and still swap everything over?

What all interior and engine parts will I need to take off also?

The 2005 may have frame damage dunno yet waiting on some pictures

The 2006 May have damage also

The 2001 Is straight the body is screwed but I don't need that part. other than interior parts

Hmmm.... there is a 2005 FX4 offorad (non level 2) in the junkyard... it was in a roll over, frame seems straight as an arrow. Didn't someone do a 4x4 swap on here?

i would do a 2001+

98-00.5 had PVH which I would try to avoid if it was me.

interior depends on what you do, manual tcase? or electric?

It will most likely be a electric I don't wanna give up the center console and well manual they seem to be rare.

the only interior part you should need is a new radio bezel with the switch for you electronic tcase, and of course the wiring for it, but other than that i cant think of any other interior parts.

I would be interested in those front fenders.

as for the interior just like posted above the wireing and the switch. the bulb should already be in the dash and you can jsut wire it up. if its not you will need an 04+ cluster to get the 4wd light.

My truck has a 4wd light just of course never comes one.

The connections probably wouldn't be the same for the gauge though

Everthing is a bolt on except the rear mount for the front differential. Some have stated they have a newer 2wd truck(torsion bar suspension) that has the mount but I haven't seen one. You will need to cut the mount off the donor truck or fabicate one. You will need the obvious: complete front axle(with gear to match your rear axle), axle shafts, spindles, transmission, transfer case, both driveshafts, and radio bezel. Be sure the spindles match your brake setup(rabs or 4wabs) To do it factory style you will need to change the dash wiring harness and you will need the 4x4 body control module located beside the radio. This harness also extends down to the transfer case to connect the electric transfer case motor. You might need the frame harness to get the plug for the transfer case. You may be able to create your own harness for the transfer case but I have never attempted this. If you change your dash harness make sure it has power doors if you have power doors. Sometime in the near future I will be doing this swap again, I will do up a how to at that time. BTW I have never done it on a truck as new as yours so there could be wiring issues I am not aware of like the body control module may need programed for your truck. You will also need a 4wd cluster if you want the indicator lights. When I do mine I am going to go with the pvh setup to gain the extra 3-5 mpg benifit and probably use manual lock out hubs.
Good Luck

I have never spent more than 1000 for a parts truck, but you are looking for a newer truck than I work with.

Oh man I want that. STL your not going to be able to use the dash harness out of an 04 I don't think considering 04s have PATS and your 05 does not.

I'm sure theres ways around that, just grab the part of the harness for the 4x4 stuff and the shift light. I don't think 04 Edge used the harness at all, just wired everything up by hand.
