I have a 2000 ranger made in oct 2000 had trouble with the pulse vacuum setup twice now. i want to put manual hubs on but were told with newer 2000 ranger that i cant.doed this have live axles and do you know if i can put manual hubs on

You dont have a live axle if you have vacume hubs. AVM hubs are the best for those years.

My 2000 model has live axles. Some 2000 models have live axles and some have pulse vacuum hubs. Are you sure that yours is pulse vacuum? Do you see the vacuum lines running from the hubs? If so, you can either switch it over to live axle, or you can install AVM manual locking hubs.

I am positive I have the vacuum.I had to replace the hub and it never came with a seal now I have to take it all apart again.Thought I would instead just put manual hubs on.So since I do have pulse vacuum I can put manual hubs on or not?

Make sure that those AVM hubs are in stock somewhere. Back when I first got my truck and thought that it had PV hubs, I was going to switch it over to manuals. I ordered a set of them from some Jeep website (which was the only place I found that had them in stock), and they put me on a lonnnnnnngggggg backorder. Finally, I canceled my order, and later I found out that my truck is live axle, which pleased me very much. You can always try eBay, though.

Appreciate all the help from everyone.I can find the hubs at ebay and online off road shops.I just didn't know if I had live axles,didn't know what that meant really.I have the pulse vacuum for sure and I will put these seals on that I bought Monday and if I have any trouble I will order the hubs.It is the second time that this thing stopped working for me and I am really tired of the extra work I have to do to keep it going.I had a Toyota truck before this one and I had manual hubs and I didn't have a bit of problem with them and it was no bother to walk outside and lock 'em in.

Live axles have a nut instead of the orange snap ring.

What seal are you talking about?

The seals are just o rings that go on the back of the hub and one on the front so the hub will have vacuum to engage and disengage the hubs

You will get new o-rings with the AVM hubs. The seal that usually cause the loss of vacuum are the ones pressed into the knuckle that seal to the cv shaft.

Yeah I was looking at them on ebay and see the new O rings.But why would I need new o rings when I put manual hubs on.It's not gonna run of vacuum?That's the mess I am in now because of these stupid O ring seals.I would just like to install the manual hubs and say the heck with all that Ford pulse vacuum crap.

New hubs come with o rings to keep out water.

Buy the avm's.

I have been worried about the vacuum thing forgot about snow and water.I want to be sure that these axles can have a manual hub on.Ill call that company monday and ask them if they will go on my truck before I order them.I think it was rugged ridge or something like that that has them.I read on the web site that they dont work on newer 2000 rangers and mine was made in Oct of 2000.But you said that there were two types of axles live and pulse vacuum and I have the vacuum design for sure.If I can get manual hubs I will order them these Are too much of a hassle.

I believe that it's the 2000 model live axle trucks that the AVM hubs won't fit. For a live axle truck, you'd have to install pulse vacuum hubs, then install the AVM hubs. For your truck, you already have pulse vacuum hubs, so the AVM hubs are compatible.

Pull your hub cap and if there is a big 32 mm bolt you have a live axle just open your eyes and look at it. Any 4wd issue on the live axle truck is not caused by the hub but by the electric motor shifting the tcase.

Yeah There is no big nut holding the axle in.I have a clip and thrust washer and thats it.
