4x4 won't engage without unhooking battery
if i want to turn on the 4x4 on my 2006 ford ranger i have to unhook the battery for 2 minutes and then i get to turn on and off once the 4x4, to use again i need to unhook batt.....
im pretty sure it is the 4x4 module. has anyone had this issue?
also im pretty sure on the 2006 ranger you got to remove the radio to get to the module?

Yes, in 2006 4x4 module is in center cavity of dash, have to remove radio to get at it
Part number is 6L5Z-7E453-A, 2006 number
Previous number was 2L5Z-7E453-AA, 2002 number, and should also work if you are looking at wrecking yards, Explorers also used the same module
But................I would check for Codes first, stop by autoparts store, they read the codes for free, WRITE THEM DOWN!!!
No, the check engine light(CEL) does not need to be on for there to be codes.
4WD requires the computer as well as 4x4 module.
Unhooking the battery Resets the Computer, not 4x4 module, it doesn't have a "brain",.
In 2006 only the instrument cluster, Smart Junction Box(body computer), and the PCM(engine computer) have "brains" that would be reset by unhooking the power at the battery
So I am not thinking 4x4 module would be the problem, they can quit working, and they are a "known issue" on earlier model Rangers, but just can't see how unhooking the battery would effect 4x4 module in anyway
