not quite sure on the miles its a 96 4.0 splash odometer stuck on 58,000. the prob is the horrible 2-3 shift flare with accompaniment of taking about 30 to 45 secs to go into reverse. (well takes awhile to get in all gears really reverse being the worst.

Idk man, it could help, but it sounds to me like the servos are toast, bad valve body seperator plate, and who's knows what else could be causing you problems. It could be as easy as putting that kit in and re-adjusting the overdrive and intermediate bands. But that's only a "fix" for healthy transmissions.

Is your OD Off light flashing? Have you taken it to a trusted transmission shop yet and just let them drive it and see what they think?

no i havent taken it anywhere yet, havent even tagged it. I saw it on craigslist and bought it soon as i saw it. it needed work and was only $500. The owner said there was something wrong with the right front wheel, the tranny was doing the standard 2-3 shift flare and it was shifting off mark. the wheel problem i solved he had never serviced the bearings and when i jacked up the truck, i could take my pinky and move the wheel and hub assembly. ( the only thing left of the bearings was the inner wall that sets on the spindle.) thats all fixed as of this weekend.

I should mention when i got it i noticed an extreme amount of corrosion in the battery cables cleaned them up and took it for a spin around the block, shifted fine. today i noticed the corrosion is back with a vengeance. i bought some new cables today gonna put them on this weekend. As far as the tranny truely dont really know just going off what the guy said cant really drive it again till this weekend. but before i cleaned the cables the o/d light was flashing, but now it hasnt since. just reading up on those trannies this is what i came up with that kit and a seperater plate and gasket.

When you cleaned the battery cables, you could have easily reset the computer to factory settings. However, the negative battery cable on mine corrodes like a mother. So replacement is probably the best idea like you are going to do.

Yeah like you're saying the kit and such is def a start and can be done yourself too which is nice on the wallet lol. Just make sure to take your TIME if you do decide to do all of that work yourself. Transmissions are super finicky as you have come realize. Proper torque procedures, alignment, etc are all important. I say go for it man!

I hear that man! If I could go back in time I would get a 5spd.

I wish I could change it over to a 5spd but it is expensive, time consuming, and nerve racking lol.

Let us know what happens and if the work you do helps!

OK its been awhile i know but got an update on my trans issues for you all.. I did not use this kit i did a little more researching this particular problem and came across this link Common Fix For 4r55e / 5r55e Transmissions With A Bad Separator Plate And Valve Body Gasket .: Articles I did this noticing there was an epc valve replacement i did the work in around 2 hrs the part numbers didnt match anything my local ford dealer could find and they said the parts for my truck they couldnt get so i did a little more research and found the actual part numbers and magically they had 2 days later... Before i began the work on my truck i noticed i didnt go into second gear at all. After all the work was done all my trans issues are gone "so far". Got a 4 hr drive to do tomorrow and i will be taking my truck on it so we will see (fingers crossed).
