7.5 axle swap for 8.8
 
i for a 2000 ford ranger pre-runner xlt with a ford 7.8 with 3:73's what is the best year model ranger to switch out with or what is my year model ranger to pick threw for a 8.8??

actually ranger 8.8s arent all that good. its best to swap with an Explorer axle. its alot stronger with the 31spline. I believe all explorers pre 2000 have them.

you should have the 8.8 if its a 2000... i could be wrong though.. mine isa 2000 and it has the 8.8 in it.. although its a 4X4:scool:

The only Ranger that came for sure stock with the 8.8 is the 4.0's. The 3.0's and 2.3's had a mix of the 8.8 and 7.5 axles.

All Explorer's have the 8.8 31 spline axle. The '92-'94 Explorers had drum brakes while the '95+ Explorer 8.8 31 spline had disc brakes.

i was one of the unlucky few with a 7.5 sad to say and its not a bad axle if i was to just be running 33's with 4:10's to work and off on weekend threw a lil bit of trail it could handle it right?
