8.8 gears.

Just bought a wagoneer D44 as my axle for the SAS.

Going with ~ 38" tires and 5.13's.

Anyone know if 5.13 is made for the 8.8's? I've been on randy's etc. and can't find any listing/part #'s for 8.8 gears about 4.88's.

EDIT: this is for an exploder 8.8, 31 spline.

31 or 28 spline doesn't matter for the gears. You WILL have problems with the c-clip axles with that gearing. To get the clips in the center pin has to come out; and even with just the 4.56 the ring gear is so thick you can't get the center pin out on some diffs. 4.88's are worse and I can only imagine 5.13's!!!

You have to grind a flat in the center pin to get it out, or do a floating axle conversion.

Call this guy and see if he can dig it up. I bought some stuff from him and he was pretty responsive.

Whether he lists it or not, he can probably find it for you.

Ya i've rebuilt some diffs so far and i've read some write-ups on thick ring gears and grinding either the pin or some of the actual teeth to get it in.

My transmission (5R44E) is my biggest worry on my truck REGARDLESS of tire size, lol.

I'm running 35's with 4.56 gears and a 31 spline axle with an Auburn ECTED locker.

38s is a lot for a dana 44. u going to lock the front? and the 8.8 is gunna take a pounding. 513s in an 8.8 is large and u might have gear over heating issues.

Mine was $550.00 for a 31 spline unit from a guy named Jeremy Ayer's. I posted his contact information a few posts above because I also got my gear set from him. They are a limited slip until locked.

As far as install, mine was complicated by the ring and pinion change, and the fact that I had and empty shell of an axle to start with. It's not so complicated to set the gear mesh pattern, and lash, but tightening down that stinkin' pinion nut is a real pain in the butt.

It takes 350 lb/ft or so to deform the crush sleeve and trying to get that torque on the nut with the axle out of the vehicle is fun. Two guys trying to hold the axle down, and the third leaning on the end of a 6 foot pipe slipped over a 3/4" drive breaker bar -- and lifting the two guys into the air, lol. What fun...

Thanks, man! It's a 2 year project time line, though, because the truck is my daily driver. Could happen sooner, but I can't take it down long to do it, so it has to be get everything together, prefab as much of the engineering as possible, then do the assembly. I may wait until it's paid off (2 years) and just get a cheap car to drive so I can take the truck down with no problems.

Dang responsibilities!
