8.8 Torsen Re-gear

Is it possible to re-gear past 4.10's with 8.8 31-spline Torsen L/S?
I have 33's and wanna go with 4.56 or 4.88, and yes I do plan on getting 35 or 36's when I get my superlift.

with the torsen the lowest gear you can go is 4.56, from what I know there are clearance problems with the center pin with 4.88s.

Masteratarms93 01-26-2011 09:56 AM

I've heard you can't do anything but 4.10s or higher because of the center pin. Not sure if you can do 4.56s or not.

I would rather run the 33s on the 4.10s then regear to 4.88s with 35s then do 4.56s now.

Well, I don't care to run 4.88's with 33's, cause it's not my DD, I just wanna know if I am able to regear to 4.88's with Torsen or if I'll have to buy a locker

RazorsEDGE 01-26-2011 10:59 AM

You can't use 4.88s with the Torsen. If you've got the coin though I'd get a selectable locker anyway. You get to run the 4.88s and you get a far superior carrier.

Sweet deal, that's all I needed to know. Thanks Ryan
Any suggestions on lockers?

Correcto! 4.56's will work, but just barely.

So 4.56 is the limit with Torsen?

Hmmm, good to know. Did not know that about the torsen. Is it worth it to run 35's with 4.56 gearing?

RLong31 01-27-2011 02:09 PM

Running 35's with 4.56's is gonna be just like running 33's with 4.10's

Right on. Thats not too bad

I wouldn't gear a torsen. The amount you have to notch for that center pin on the ring gear doesn't leave much actual ring gear in that spot. For what you pay for the gears and install its not worth it. Buy an open carrier and drop in a auto locker for piece of mind.

For what gears? 4.56's? I didn't modify anything with 4.56's.

The SuperDookie Ranger 01-27-2011 07:50 PM

either way....I was told by a few guys that 4.88's will fit, but that I would have to use low pinion gears vs high pinion gears. I believe you guys, but I just wanna be sure before I buy the 4.56's instead of 4.88's

immortal_vision 01-27-2011 07:59 PM

yea this is the delimma im having right now too.. but ym trucks my DD and im mostly highway to and from work so i NEED 4.56's.

The SuperDookie Ranger 01-29-2011 10:07 AM

So your saying that you would get better fuel mileage with 4.56's vs 4.10's with 33's?

Depends on your driving... city vs highway..
