Auto trans issue

Need a lil advice. Got an '05 4x4 offroad XLT 4.0L . Getting a little shudder when it shifts to overdrive. Haven't changed the fluid and filter since I've owned it. 124k now. Will it help, hurt or is just too late?

Is the fluid smell burnt or is it low?

Just checked it and it is just slightly low. Not burnt though. I think I'll have the filter changed and a top off and see how it is. Just started so maybe no damage yet.

Low fluid definitely will cause it to jerk through the gears. Instead of just topping it off, I'd go ahead and change it along with the filter.
