Range Rover front for SAS?

so I was at the junk yard the other day, and I saw a 1990 ish range rover. The front was perfect and it had a nice SFA. Anyone now what kinda axle it is... and I'm pretty sure they have selectable lockers?
The other intriguing thing about it was the way it allowed for steering. Instead of having a spindle that pivots about 2 bolts, it had a ball-joint socket that attached to the spindle. Hard to describe, but I'll see if i can find a pic...

Anyway, any comments? (related to the axle...)

is that kinda like the 85 yoda fronts? I had a friend with one and it looked kinda like a "ball-joint" spindle.

Won't work... It's passenger side Drop... You need a drivers side drop.. Only axles you can use are jeep and ford for SFA projects

Are you talking about a closed-knuckle design? They actually became less popular because they don't hole up all that well.

Or I should say -- don't hold up all that well in severe service.

This is a closed knuckle end if the picture links.

Sounds like a closed knuckle to me. With the right modifications they can hold up pretty well. The old toyota solid axles use a closed-knuckle design and some people beat on those all day long with 37"+ tires.

They're hard to seal up and keep sealed and they tend to keep any much inside them. I wouldn't want one for mud.

Not that i'm aware of. Even the D44 was made with a closed knuckle design for some time. They've got their ups and downs certainly, but they're not awful.
