94 stuck in 2nd gear..... already pulled shifter, no go

94 stuck in 2nd gear..... already pulled shifter, no go
So I just got this truck.... 94 ranger 4x4 with the 5 speed
now I'm a gm guy..... but I've always wanted a small 4x4 for hunting
was told it would not go into first and 2nd..... but was able to get 1st to work if I shifted into it....then started the engine
the clutch isn't fully disengaging..... but I can fix that
probably just needs a bleed
anyway..... shifted out of 1st at 3000 rpm..... and got 2nd
back to 3000 rpm..... and she would NOT come out of 2nd
engine on or off..... clutch in or out.... rocking back and forth
no go
took off shifter and cant pry the "tooth" back to center
I know the top cover has to come off now....

point is..... can I pull top cover by removing the access panel in the cab?
or do I NEED to drop the trans and t-case?
and does anyone know what it might be that's broke?
PS while I was messing with it.... I had to shift into 2nd a few times to get it to engage
when I try to shift out..... gears grind (like it's trying to engage more than one gear...idk)

I can drive a stick know a few things but not mutch my wifes nissan 90 with a 95 motor clutch master slave went out before sounds to me the slaves running dry has a leak or is not bled there is a line that goes on the res you should buy some fluid have someone push the pedal in then you loosen the screw.
Pump it back up then go to next gear and repeat til your back at n then go for test rise
