94 xlt 4 wheel drive clicks won't engage

Have a 94 xlt manual transmission when you push the 4x4 button it clicks will not engage in high or low.

get under the truck and give the transfer case motor a couple hits with a hammer, if it shifts then well you know your transfer case motor is on the way out.
