Gool Ol 35's... need more stopping power, suggestions?

Gool Ol 35's... need more stopping power, suggestions?

Sooo like many of you on here im running 35's and they are heavy. What is a good way to get some of my stopping power back? Is it worth upgraded to slotted or drilled rotors, and as far as brake pads what is a good brand that will last a while and not wear too fast?

Im getting due fairly quick thanks

It's not too insanely difficult to swap in a disc 8.8 from an explorer. And since you already have a 31 sline rear axle, you can swap over everything you have to the disc one.

Slotted or drilled rotors are a waste on street vehicles, but good quality discs and ceramic pads will help. Rear discs will help too, and should improve your pedal feel.

Move up to either the Explorer or Sport Trac brakes, both ar bigger and better for larger diameter tires.

Yeah, bigger disks will work wonders.

So explorer front discs are bigger and will bolt on to my ranger?

^^id like to know this as well.. but i dont think it applies to me, did expos ever have a 2wd coil sprung version? if not ill never be able to swap the brakes over.

why not mustang cobra brakes front and rear? a guy on RPS makes a kit to run them... you'd have to run 17 inch wheels though...

No thier not. The slotted or drilled holes help with brake fade. I run EBC discs up front w/ greenstuff pads and they have come in handy numerous times when people stop suddenly in front of me.

Because that kit's for 2wd hub assy rotors. He has a 4x4.

Now the rear can be modified to fit, but you do have to cut the brackets and fab up ebrake cables.

Hed have less money in buying a disc 8.8 and swapping the inernals.

but you can contact the guy and see if he can make a set of brackets and stuff for a 4wd... i'm sure it couldn't be that different...

I vote rear discs. My fav/best upgrade. I was suprised how much better the braking power was over just front discs.

Your brakes don't fade much during a single panic stop. Holes or slots help cool faster between stops after the disc is rotating again, the problem is they reduce disc surface area. Race cars make up for this by having huge discs, but yours are the still the stock size. The best thing for street vehicles is quality solid discs and pads (like ebc). Quality discs are thicker and absorb more heat.

Anyway, what's this about swapping to larger explorer front discs? I've never heard of that before.

I had slotted and drilled rotors on my lifted Sport Trac and they lasted one summer and winter before they were shot. Everything and anything will find it's way into the drilled holes and get stuck in them causing the pads and rotors to get chewed up, break and rust.

Unless you rally road race, drift or drag race your vehicle they are a waste of money and will cause more headaches and problems then help.

the rear disks help a ton! then if you run a good pad it helps a lot too. i run the EBC yellow stuff HD pads, very good bite when you need them, but great for daily stuff. if you do these all around that helps abit. the last thing to do is upgrade the master cylinder. alot have over look this, but its night and day. the master to run is off a 96-98 f250 4x4 with abs. it bolts on with no alterations. aside form going to cobra breaks thats the best thing i can think of.

^Aside from the Fullsize MC, you can also use the '96+ Explorer MC, cant you? You can also adjust the piston in the stock MC to compensate for the extra fluid used to stiffen up you pedal if you cant drop the coin on the MC right away.
