I've been noticing a little stutter when I accelerate lately. I'm not sure what it is but I'm guessing it's the tranny. Anyone else ever have this happen? Any ideas on what I can do? Thanks

 

Have you re-oiled that K&N filter recently? How many miles on the plugs? Run your gas tank close to empty and refill at a reputable station ?
Need a little more info here to try and help.

 

K&N filter is a recent upgrade. I haven't had the truck that long and I have yet to look at the plugs, so thats an idea.

Sounds like this might be the typical slip yoke problem. The slip yoke needs to be repacked with grease. There is a TSB out there for this. I just had my u-joints replaced, driveshaft balanced, and slip yoke repacked. I no longer have the driveline stutter off the line.

Where exactly is the slip yoke and what is a TSB?

 

A TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin. Sent out to dealers to inform them of a known problem with a vehicle and an approved repair/replacement procedure.
The slip yoke is the section of a driveshaft , generally near the transmission end, where the two sections of shaft are mated together in a male / female configuration.There is a grease fitting there that tends to get neglected.This causes a bind in the yoke that has a tendency POP when you accelerate.

I've got a '99 4WD with the same stuttering. I searched up and down along the drive shaft and the whole power-train, can't find any grease fittings anywhere. My drive shaft has a rubber 'accordion' boot on the front end with some 'permanent' style metal banding for clamps. I'm sure this is where the male meets female, but do I dare cut off those clamps and mess with the boot? Will I find a zirx fitting under that boot? I felt around the boot, it doesn't seem like anything is sticking out, like a zirx. The drive shaft also had 2 quarter-sized circles attached to the shaft. Due to the level of rust on the shaft, I couldn't tell how they were fastened to the shaft. One at the back of the shaft top, on at the front bottom. I'm quite sure those are for balancing, not for lubrication though.

If anyone knows where I need to grease this slip yoke, please reply. And thanks to you in advance.
