For the past few weeks I've been looking at a bunch of different lockers for my rear axle. After today I am pretty much dead set on buying one, because I got a little stuck... lol I was driving WAY out in the boonies of North Port checking out what hurricane Charley left behind, it was wierd cuz all of the gigantic trees were all bent pretty much uniformly in one direction because of the 100+ mph winds... Anyway I was wheelin around this huge mud pit/swamp and flexed a little too much in a ditch dug out by rain run off... :? Lets just say if I had a locker I could have spent an hour of my time NOT digging my truck out.

My 1st choice is a Powertrax Lock-Right. Its one of the cheapest for around $295, and I love the idea that I can install it myself because you dont have to take out the stock carrier to put it in.

Does anyone have a Lock-Right in their truck? Or ridden in vehicles that had one installed? I wanna get a little more feedback before I buy one.

 

I've heard they're good....I've also heard good things about Auburn Lockers, but they can't be rebuilt. Of course, at $350, I should hope you'd never have to....

 

If you have a 7.5, you're going to have trouble installing it yourself. There are some clearance issues in the smaller carrier, so you will have to do a little bit of grinding on the ring gear to get the locker to fit inside.

 

oh i dont like the sound of that... I read something about grinding the ring gear on another site and i thought it was just for 4.10 and up gears, is this true? ive got 3.73...

There's only one way to find out of you have clearance issues, Clarence. The Lock-Right is the perfect locker for your application, though.

 

I just read on the Richmond Gears website that the Lock Right for the 7.5 only fits with 3.45-3.73 gear ratios. So I'm good to go.

I've got one more question though. Should I use a heavier weight oil for the differential to try and drown out some of the clicking noises? If so, what weight of oil would you recommend?
