aussie front locker

ok so i have the aussie front locker in my truck and i have blown 2 cv shafts....i am woundering if i should pull the locker out or keep it i wana off road the truck and not worry about that stupid cv shafts its not my dd anymore and i am not sure does the locker help alot i had only 1 ok test but it was just driving around in a lake....if i leave it in is there anyway not to stap a cv i want 4hi and lo....so my question is there any secrets to running this locker w/ the stock cvs.....

Fx4wannabe01 11-11-2008 11:57 PM

improper tolerences for the locker install could cause this

weak cv's also cause this.

Talk to Matt(white 4x4 now solid axled ranger). I'm positive he'll chime in.

I wheeled mine a couple times with the aussie in it before I sold it and never broke a shaft. One thing that will snap the shafts in a hurry is if you have the wheels cranked in low and step on the gas real hard. Also how much do you have your bars cranked, if you have them close to maxed out or maxed out that will cause issues too.

Redneckstone 11-12-2008 12:29 AM

ya turning the wheels and mashing it with lockers lol... not smart in general...

SO with an Aussie locked front end, I cant turn my wheels and get on it w/out breaking cv shafts????

So is an Aussie not a good DD item??

You can't turn your wheels all the way and get on it when in 4wd.

As far as DD it can go either way from what I have seen.

I'm alllll over it :sly:

mine wasn't setup right, like he was saying so i was basically running a spool in the front axle... yea yea not the best idea but i didn't care, it was just a different style of driving to get used to.

yep.. have fun:mischievo i went through plenty, but i was also being stupid

Just go to Advance Auto Parts.. Lifetime warranty, I only bought one for each side and got 5-6 driver side ones for free. Hell both the old ones in the bed of my truck are messed up, so I'm thinking of exchanging them and selling them

on our trucks (98-00) you can get manual hubs and be fine.
just dont turn the wheels to either lock and get on it.. you WILL shatter the casing if you're not careful.

What are those?:silly:

RazorsEDGE 11-12-2008 03:10 PM

Shoot I've romped on mine pretty hard and haven't broke a shaft, yet....

rangerboy101 11-12-2008 03:24 PM

so would an aussie be ok with my 02 and still have it be a dd?

Blackhawk 11-12-2008 04:47 PM

If ur at stock height(which ur avatar shows) and have even a/t tires no its not worth it to get a locker. U'll high center long before those tires will need to catch solid ground on both sides.
Iv'e got a locker in the rear and it works like a charm.

whippersnapper02 11-12-2008 04:56 PM

There have been times where a front locker would have come in handy when I offroad and I'm at stock height.

fawkin parking lots.

a locker can always help..

casfz1 11-12-2008 06:13 PM

My truck was a DD and put about 5,000 miles on it with out any problems. In the winter I felt that the truck was more predictable in 4wd with the locker in the front. As for not have T-bars what I was getting at if your cv's are running at a high angle you will have problems as they don't like it.

Hayn Time 11-12-2008 07:04 PM

I've run a no-slip in my front end going on five years now w/out problems. Some issues though have arisen:

1) Some wandering
2) Torn CV boots
3) Tire cupping

TXranger4x4 11-12-2008 10:25 PM

how am i going to know if the locker was not installed right??

Hanks Rangers 11-12-2008 10:37 PM

umm it should ratchet if its correctly installed

99ranger4x4 11-12-2008 11:17 PM

you wont be able to turn for ****!

like at slow speeds with the hubs locked in on pavement you would need to crank on the steering wheel.. but i wouldn't advise trying it there lol

you will know..

99offroadrngr 11-13-2008 07:06 AM

hmm.....so if i have my hubs locked but in 2wd, should i still be careful when turning and stuff?
or should i only be careful when locked in 4wd?

if you have avm hubs and there in unlocked mode the cv's and front axle isnt not turning so there will be no problems

seed60 11-13-2008 08:04 AM

What about live axle?

99offroadrngr 11-13-2008 08:09 AM

Gotcha. Thanks.

live axle being the t-case is disconnected the locker is not getting any input force so it will not act like a locked but more like an open diff..
