How Do I Change Transmission Fluid in a Ford Ranger? | eHow.com ( Pos. NOT GOOD.)
Anything anyone wants to add to this?
I'm going to have to do the tranny fluid soon, I have no idea when it was done last, and the fluid is low, still red, but very low.

Do NOT listen to the E How one (second link in your first post). Because you are not emptying the torque converter and flushing the cooler, you will not need to put in all 7 quarts. it only takes that much when the whole system is empty. most ranger filters are held on by a single 8mm long bolt. its easy to change.

I would not listen to E how either! Here's how I do it. Jack up your truck and put on stands. Break loose all the pan bolts but don't loosen them yet I alway drain the oil from the rear of the pan so I remove all the rear bolts. Then I work my way towrds the front removing one bolt at a time from each side until I get to just the front pan bolts holding it. By this time you will probably have fluid dripping, I take out the front pan bolts one at a time until I get to the last one and slowly loosen it until its almost out. By this time the pan is hanging way down and you have caught all the fluid in your drain pan instead of having it runn all over the floor and down your arm. When its done dripping(or when ever your ready) just hold the pan up and remove the last bolt and you can lower it without a mess. If its a factory pan gasket it will have little metal barrels that keep you from overtightening it so if you see little metal pieces don't panic. When you change your filter watch for the orings to stick on your trans intead of coming off with the filter, Pull them off and pitch them if they do. The new filter will come with new ones. E-how says to use gasket sealer, I never do and sometimes I reuse the old pan gasket because its better quality than the replacement. Either way use a rubber gasket not cork! clean everything up spotless reinstall and add about 4.5 quarts of fluid. Start it up and shift it thru all the gears. Do not fill the trans all the way until it is up to operating temperature or it will be overfull(another E-how blunder) I always get the fluid on the stick and take it for a ride to warm it up then come back and top it off...

I hate messing with gaskets, o-rings, what have you.. Makes me nervous.
I've changed the oil on my truck numerous times, and on a Ford Focus once..
It's pretty much the same system for filling the oil, add 3/4 of whats supposedly needed, let it settle, (Run it since it's A/T fluid and not oil.), then re-check and add in increments until at appropriate level.
Correct?
Thanks so far guys!!
Only problem is I have 2 jack stands, not 4.

wvcat has the method i use when i change other peoples tranny fluid!! normally i loosen all the bolts to where i can get them with my fingers, then tap on it with a rubber mallet to break the seal, fluid will start to come out. then hold on the bottom of the pan with one hand and take all the bolts out, lower the pan slowly. i can lower the whole pan, fluid and all, without spilling it, then i dump it in a waste oil pan.
the gasket and filter kit really shouldn't be that expensive, along with some fluid. the O2 sensor will most likely cost more. they run about $50 around here.
