auto trans problem: double shifting?
Truck specs:
2002 Ranger Edge Plus 4x4, 4.0L auto trans 44k miles no mods except Thunderbolt exhaust. Here's my problem, my transmission stammers hard between 2nd and 3rd gear during acceleration (It almost feels like it has to shift twice to get into 3rd gear). It used to only happen when I was accelerating hard, but now it seems to be most of the time. I do a bit of heavy towing (2200lb boat every other weekend), but I shouldn't be having this kind of problem. I haven't had the trans fluid replaced yet (too much $ right now) and I wondering if it will fix this problem. I haven't taken it to the dealership yet, but it's going to end up there if this thing gets any worse. Please let me know your thoughts on this one. Thanks a ton! Brian |
try unhooking the battery for 20 min or so. might help
but you really need to get the fluid flushed that is the first place i would start. |

mine does it too. best part is when i come off an exit ramp from being in OD and i stop then you can feel it down shift to each gear as i sit there. auh got to love autos :blackeye: |
mine isnt that bad lol
it just kinda studder shifts from 2 to 3.. and sometimes from 3 to 4. |
just make sure u keep up with the trans flush at every 30k
if u ever have a problem, first thing a dealer is going to ask is if u had the 30k matiance and can you prove it...if you cant, they prob wont help you. i work for a dealership so i no...we always get yelled at if you dont reccemend a flush at 30k, even if the fluid looks perfect. |
i think alot of rangers do what Mr. Beard just explained and clunk. Mine does it
