explorer axle gears

explorer axle gears

i want to swap in an explorer axle and am wondering if there are any of them that came with 4.10s? if so, any info on what year exploder to look for, etc would help greatly in my search...

95+ had disc brakes, 94 down had drum brakes, all came with 4.10s in some axles, i think its a D4 or D2 code, cant remember

oh and the D4/D2 whichever is also a l/s axle

hell yeah i want one really bad too. thanks for the tip i was going to look for a 31 spline w/ 4.10s didnt know they had l/s

not all explorer axles cam with 4.10's. No one year did. Look at the tag on the pumpkin, it will be attached to one of the bolts holding the rear cover on. Your looking for something in there like 3L73 or 4L10. thats stands for 4.10s and the L is for LS

I've seen 3.55's too I believe. My axle is a 3L73 = 3.73 Limited Slip.

All 95+ is the ones you want. All are 31 spline and all are disc brakes. Limited slip, open, gear ratios are all variable...so you never know til you look at that tag on the axle under the donor vehicle.

Generally, if the donor vehicle has a 5.0 in it, it's highly likely to have 4.10's and Limited Slip.

taknotes was saying that all the years could have 4.10s not that they all do

dont waste your time getting under it to look, look at the AXL code in the door jam... and memorize the numbers off this chart that you want..make sure you look under explorer
