Axle off center?
 

This may be a question that has been answered before but I have an 04 2wd xlt and my rear axle is shifted to the pass. side about 1 1/2 inches. I know that vehicles sometimes are built to have somewhat of an offset but i think that is a little drastic. I plan on lowering the truck and I know that once I do, I'm gonna get some major rubbing on that side. The left side would clear the fender by almost 3/4 of an inch. Wtf is going on here and can i fix it. I'm fairly mechanically inclined but I can't see anything that may be bent or broken.

I'd get under your truck and just look at everything under there. It doesn't sound like its something good. If everything looks fine then I'd say you'd probably have to end up cutting and re welding your spring perches and shock mounts.

your rear axle shouldn't be shifted to one side.....rather the differential pumpkin is off center a little bit...probably 1.5" or 1.25" or so. Something is messed up on your truck man.

the diff is not centered in the axle, so you need to be sure if the axle is actually offset or if it is just the way the diff is offset. It is visibly offset also. One thing you can do is just measure from the outside of the leaf spring to the brake backing plate on each side and see if they are the same. The axle itself is most likely centered just fine, it's just the way the diff is offset. This also means that the axleshafts are different length on each side of the axle so they are not interchangeable from driver to passengerside.
