'99 - Hub hum - lube? (first post!)
Hi, - first post - thanks in advance for your help!
I have a '99. I did the "fix" to bypass the pvh system yesterday. (the one that leaves a "push-button" system) - seems to work great.
My question is - with what, where, & how, do you lube in these systems? I have a "hum" that varies with speed, that I'd bet is coming from the 4wd... The visable gears appear relatively dry and clean... Should they be?
I haven't had this truck long, so I can't be sure when noise started. It does have new tires but I don't think that's it.
Recently, a guy was trying to "fix" the 4wd and one of the things he did was to swap the front hubs from side to side... Could he have done something there?....
Thoughts?

Sorry man. I don't believe the auto hubs get any lube.
When exactly did the noise start? Does it still make the noise when the hubs are disengaged? Can you rule out the tires for sure? Have you checked for play in the wheel bearing/ hub assembly? Does it get worse when you turn? Have you checked the front differential oil level?
