benefits of regearing?
I have a 97 anger xlt 2wd 2.3l 5 speed. I always hear ppl talking about regearing the rear end in their cars/trucks but idk what it does. Could I benefit from doing this to my truck?

http://www.howstuffworks.com/gears.htm These may help a little. Re gearing alters your ratio to compensate for larger tires and not sacrificing drive-ability. |
nothing for you. Your stock truck has stock gears.

Double post.
I seen this over on TRS. If you are stock no there is no benefit. |
Saying there is no benefit to doing this on a stock truck isn't exactly true. Adding a higher ratio gear will give you better acceleration and/or more towing power. The adverse effect is that it will hurt your gas mileage.

We need more info. His question is too vague. |

Depends on what the OP's needs are. If he doesn't tow anything, then regearing to a deeper ratio doesn't help.

On the flip side, going to a numerically lower ratio won't benefit either, since the 2.3L is a gutless, torque free motor.

My stock neon has different gears. It made a huge difference. Car went from gutless to gutless but able to move. The 4 mpg I lost was well worth the drivability increase. If you want to re gear it I would say go for it. It makes it feel much more powerful.
The change I did was from 3.2x to 3.7x. 70 mph moved from 2600 rpm to 3400 rpm. |
