BEST GEARS FOR 33'S?? 4.0 SOHC
Still looking for answers on this i did a search but didnt find anything decent.. whats the best gears for running 33's with a 4.0 SOHC? I think i got the 4.10's stock but id love to get my gas mileage a bit better and get that kick in the pants feel back like it was stock.. if possible.
reccomendations? 4.56's? I may run 35's int he near future... but for now i do most of my driving on the highway and not as much offroading as i used to.

Do the Math…
New tire size divided by the old tire size and you get a percentage.
Multiply the percentage time the old gears and you have a ball park for the new gears.
Example:
New tires = 33
Old tires = 31
Percentage of change (Pc) = 1.14% (not much)
Pc - 1.14 x Old Gear Ratio - 4.10 = New Gear Ratio - 4.65
Now 4.56 will give you the best overall performance. should be better on gas and should basically give you back the OEM Gear/Tire Feel.
If you do more trail riding 4.88s will give you a little more torque at the tires.
ALSO what evilclown312 said about future mods.
I run 33’s and will be running 4.56s with no future plans to go bigger.

i have 4.10s and 33's. it has decent lowend power and when im on the freeway doing 70 im turning jsut over 2200rpm's. i wouldnt want to go any higher than that for cruising. however 4.56's will turn higher rpm's at the same speed. if you had the 4.56's you would have a little more in the low end of power (so it would feel at least) and if you chose to go to 35's it would work out just fine. 4.88s seem to be whats sought after more, but you may want to find someones with that set up and drive it first before pulling the trigger

Dan have you driven a 4.0L SOHC Ranger with 4.56 gears and 33s? The RPM difference at 70mph is around 200 between 4.10 gears, it is minimal. 31" tires and 4.10 gears should turn about 2350RPM at 70mph, so with 4.56 gears and 33s it is only turning +/- 50RPM more than stock at 70mph.
My sport trac came stock with 4.10 gears and 30" tires, and turned 2400 RPM at 70mph. It worked great in town and on the freeway, it puts the SOHC in a great RPM range for power. I re-geared it to 4.88s with 33s and it turned 2600RPM at 70mph, still worked great and pulled awesome, though a little higher than necessary. I loved that setup in Oregon where the highest speed limit was 65mph. Here is it 70mph and people cruise at 80+ so it wasn't ideal.
