Ok the last couple weeks (2 or so) I've noticed that my truck "jumps" after I take off. I'll just hit the gas at a redlight and it almost acts like it's slipping and then grabs. But I'm thinking its the rearend because the transmission is fine shifting and once I get going there isn't any "slip" to be found. When I take off quite slowly it kinda squeaks then lurches forward. I'm thinking its the rearend. Sometimes it will make a little clunk too. Another question, since I have the extended warranty, good to 80,000 miles I think, does it cover the axle?

i would say you need to take it in and let the dealership figure it out.....could be either your rear end or your tranny...........sounds more like a tranny problem to me.....like it is starting to lose 1st and 2nd gears.......

 

Could be the slip yoke in the rear driveshaft as well.

 

Could it be the tires? Mine does that since I took it off roading through dirts/rocks... I thought my tires are just dirty (and may have rocks in them).

 

I'm sure it's not the tires. So I should have them check the slip yoke, tranny, and rearend? Since I haven't had to take it in for service yet what's the deal with the repair? Is there a warranty set fee? Or do I just take it in and they fix it with absolutely no charge? This is ridiculous anyways, I've only taken my truck in mud/sand once and I don't even drive it that hard.

 

As far as the charge that all depends on what type of extended warranty you have.

I've got a packet thing. I'll have to check that. But other than that just take it in and have them diagnose it? Should I have them drive it with me in it to tell them what I mean?

 

I would just take it in and explain your problem then ask them if they want to go for a ride, so they can see what you are talking about.

Well I'll try that. I found the warranty info. It's the Quality Checked Powertrain Limited Warranty. Supposedly it covers transmission, axle, and engine parts. The deductible is $100 per repair visit.

 

I think I might have a local mechanic "diagnose" it first so I can maybe have an idea of what's going on when I go to the dealer. It depends on what is available first.

 

Bill is right - slip yoke bind is probably the problem. Ford has been fighting it for many years and there have been several TSBs issued. Read through this thread for more info:

mine is doing this also but it makes a poping noise when i hit the gas while rolling in 1st 2nd or 3rd or go around a corner and hit the gas.
