The joint can move. You should be able the move it closer. It may help to put the ujoint side in last. Before you put this back in make sure all the ***** are in the grooves. Trust me it matters.

I had to get a used shaft from the classifieds. Because mine fell apart during a trans swap.

I have all the ***** in their slots and i am putting the u-joint side in last. when i have the t-case side in place and i pull the shaft toward the diff, it is too short. i put the ***** and the keeper on ther undercut in the shaft that is behind the splines then slid it into the other piece and put the cap on. it seemed to be correct but too short

when you put it all back together does it pivot around or is it stiff ? It should rotate freely if not you put it together wrong and need to try again.

it pivots around. when i fully push it in it does not move witht he other piece that the cv's go into. it just moves by itself. if i pull it back out it is fine but still too short...ill have to try in the am to get it back together. is there only one way it can go back together? do i have to match the shaft with the cv holder?

it can go two ways right and wrong. I'm sorry I can't elaborate right now, tired and had a few beverages. I just know that it took me three tries to put mine back together before I got it right. I can say that it's not the easy way...if that makes sense.

I'll try again tomorow.
