Break Rotor Question
 

Well i need new rotors on the front of my truck. can i use rotors off of a 94 exploder with abs. my truck doesnt have abs. but will the rotors still work. i can get them for free and the rotors are in great shape just a little surface rust. and it has brand new pads on it too. thanks guys

you should be able too, I've got rotors and calipers from an expo and they work on mine.

FYI, its spelled "brake" not "break"..

I THINK they will work but I could of course be mistaken.

Who knows what condition they are in. Yeah they have a bit of surface rust but they could be warped like crazy. Yeah you can turn them but they could be too thin to turn. I say just buy new stuff because they aren't expensive anyway.

I personally would never go used on any brake parts. But if they are the same size I don't see why they wouldn't work.

i agree. Just buy new parts. They might fit, but who's to say that they are any good.

Easy way to check, go to RockAuto.com and look up your truck. Find your rotor, then click on the (i) button or the product part number(don't remember which one to click ATM). It'll open a new window that'll show you all the vehicles and years that that rotor is made for.



Rotors are like $20 or $25 a pop, pads are like $40 for a good set. Don't skimp on brake parts.

They may be free, but your life and the life of others on the road is priceless. Why risk it with used parts that are designed to keep you safe?

I wish rotors were $20 each. I paid $52 each for my Napa brand rotors.

I dont see any problem running used rotors. Its a chunk of steel, what can go wrong with it. Pads on the other hand I would never reuse.

^^only downside is Downey probably won't resurface the rotors and will probably reuse those used pads.

I'm sorry....rear brakes are one thing, fronts are a whole other story. Like I said earlier, brakes are something you shouldn't ever skimp on.

yeah im going to buy new pads but i dont have the cash for rotors and i can have them turned for free

Maybe don't drive the Ranger until you have the money to fix it correctly?

haha and your worried about the used ones being warped. Back when I had my Corsica, I bought some really really dirt cheap rotors (around $15) and they were warped with in 6k miles. There were warped so bad that i was afraid the car was going to fall apart from the vibrations when i stopped.

I say go for it, run the used rotors. Seriously its a chunk of steel, if you can get them turned for free they are as good as new.

Eh. I still say new parts over used. If you can't take care of a vehicle then maybe its time to take the bus.
