1991 Ranger won't shift

I got a 1991 Ranger with V6 4.0l automatic

It stopped shifting on me the other nights. Starts up and runs fine, but won't shift out of first and just revs as i add more gas, but no shift and no power.

any ideas on where to start looking into this problem?

its only got 505,000 miles on it ;-)

I'd like to keep it going if i can

Ben...

need more info, but what you are saying is that it wont shift out of first, try to make it go to 15 mph, let of the gas and see if it will shift then, it must be a flat road so you can get up to 15 mph

well i had the transmission checked out by a a shop and they confirmed what I thought might be true. The transmission is just shot. Apparently you can only get 505,000 miles on those things.

the truck has been donated and now i search for a new vehicle..which sucks.
