Limited slip additive? Sealant or gasket?

Well I replaced my rear pinion seal and I was gonna replace my axle oil.

I got the correct fluid as stated in my manual, but my buddy said I might have to put limited slip additive in the axle.

Plus is their a gasket or sealant for the rear cover of the axle?

I used red RTV sealant and has held up great for the last 4 or 5 months.
And ya if you have a limited slip diff then you need a limited slip additive.

You only need a limited slip additive if you have a limited slip or locker. Also, most synthetic gear oils don't require a friction modifier.

I'd use an RTV silicone gasket maker for the gasket between the housing and cover. Just be sure to clean both surfaces or it will leak fluid. Permatex also makes a new sealant that is specifically designed for use on differentials.

Like its been said if you have a LS then you'll need that additive, most of the better brands already have that modifier in them. I used cheap oil so it didn't have it and then got a bottle and added half the amount your suppose to. Works great and locks up well for me.

Run royal purple (additive already in the lube) and RTV and you will be fine.

Using sealant not a gasket. I recommend the orange high temp stuff.
If the gear oil says "limited slip" on it, do not use more additive.
