junkyard alum driveshaft?

I got the idea awhile back to modify something I have laying around (work at a "race car" shop) and we have two ford aluminum driveshafts.

I didn't know if someone made a drop in for a 2002 edge shortbed but I figured I could get a mustang one lengthened (stock length is 45" c/c) or the easier route might be to have a Mark VIII shortened (stock length is 58"). I measured mine and it is 54" center to center so either way its going to a driveshaft shop here in marietta to get one modified and balanced.

I would imagine the yoke ends on both are the same since the mustang is for a t5/c4/AOD and an 8.8/7.5 and the Mark is for a 4r70w and an 8.8.

Just wanted to see if anyone else had done this and what they would recommend . . .

you can get an aluminum driveshaft off a wrecked Ranger and it would bolt in.......ONLY if the truck it comes off of is IDENTICAL to the truck it is going on.....for instance, a ext cab 4x4 aluminum driveshaft would fit another ext cab 4x4.......2wd regular cab to 2wd reglar cab will fit.....

Ford made aluminum driveshafts starting in '03 i believe......they wasn't on all the Rangers, but they are easy to find in a junk yard....

go look....if yours is a dull silver color, then it is aluminum, if it isn't, then you have a steel driveshaft...

That would be the hardest thing. There aren't many junk 2002 rangers around here . . .

I can get a Mark VIII one for $50 locally and maybe $100-150 or so to get shortened and balanced.

So are you saying if I found an 03 4x4 ext. cab ranger with an alum. driveshaft it would fit up to mine? Wouldnt that give a heck of a lot better throttle response? I know it would look 10xxx better thats for sure
