Can I put a 4x2 Transmission in a 4x4 Ranger?

I bought a 1988 Ranger with a bad tranny. Having a hard time finding a replacement.
I do have access to a a 4x2 tranny.

Can I put the 4x2 tranny in my truck until I find a 4x4 tranny? Will it bolt right in?

Thanks in advance.
