changing seal

how to change axle seal in rear end of 2002 ford ranger

You need to pop the diff cover and get the axles out along with some of the brakes. Then you get the old seals off and pop on the new ones.

just the drums have to come off that's all for the brakes. pull the diff cover, and get those axles out pull them seals and reverse installation

The pinion seal and axle seals are different, the poster should clarify what is leaking.

oh my bad i miss read that he should change that pinion any way while hes in their changing seals

I would not TOUCH that pinion seal if it is not leaking. You take a chance of running that pinion bearing preload wrong when you do it the way posted, I did that myself about 2 yrs ago. Took it apart, did it right and no problems 35k later.
Many people get lucky with that method, and the "proper" way of doing it is WAY more involved, but no reason to chance it if it's not leaking.
